Federal President celebrates with volunteers

In times of climate crisis, populism and conflicts all over the world can one still have a serious “desire for the future”? Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is convinced: “Especially in times of doubt, new confidence is needed.” That requires an incentive.

On Friday evening, he and his wife Elke Büdenbender had around 4000 dedicated citizens from all over the country in the Bellevue Palace as guests, in order to enjoy a wonderful summer weather Celebrate with children, culture, with games, information and international delicacies: “Especially when we threaten to despair, it depends on the hearts,” he shouted applause.

Closely surrounded, he used a tour to personally meet even more people – also from the partner countries Finland and North Rhine-Westphalia. The bandwidth could hardly have been bigger. From Moritz from Thuringia, who, only three months old, because of the honorary merits of his mother was allowed to be around the sport, to a 91 – year old, who has long been for the German Polish friendship engaged, the spectrum reached. Berlin’s honorary citizen Margot Friedländer also strolled through the park.

Praise for those who “do not duck”

Steinmeier took the opportunity to call for hatred, insult and violence. Of all volunteers are often exposed, especially mayors, “who do not duck away.” In addition, the Federal President advocated a strong culture of controversy, in which the better argument counts and not the louder slogan.

Shortly before the elections, he also took the opportunity to recall the responsibility that everyone has, who goes into a polling booth.

Finally, he reminded of the brave ones who changed the world with the peaceful revolution 30 years ago. Elke Büdenbender spoke to the education ministers from NRW and Finland, Yvonne Gebauer and Li Andersson, about more equitable educational opportunities.

If you are not yet on a voluntary journey, you can be inspired on this Saturday at the open castle.
